HE IS ALSO A SPORTS ANALYST WITH CHANNELS TELEVISION, WE ARE TALKING ABOUT NONE OTHER THAN JULIAN AJUNWA.

We talked about his best and worst moments in the studio, and why he thinks Enyimba will win the NPFL for the 8th time, and why Sunday Oliseh should not be sacked and many more, excerpts:

 JULIAN.

Notable quotes:

"they(ENYIMBA) have the best chairman or administrator in the league (Chief Felix Anyasi Agu) he has been the one responsible for the success of the club over the last decade so on that premise I think they would retain their crown and win for the 8th time”………

READ FULL INTERVIEW BELOW

SBW: Introduce yourself sir?

Julian Ajunwa: My name is Julian Ajunwa

SBW: What/who attracted you to the world of sports?

Julian Ajunwa: Passion basically attracted me to love sports, the need to inform listeners about all that is trending in the world of sports.

SBW: So what is your favorite sports?

Julian Ajunwa: Football because of the passion and the drama associated with it.

SBW: Which sports do you play?

Julian Ajunwa: Football, I try to play it regularly just to keep fit.

SBW: What has been your most embarrassing moment in the studio?

Julian Ajunwa:  That was my first day ever on air, I was very nervous when the first question was asked, and couldn't conjure up words together. It was a really terrible moment.

SBW: And your best moment?

Julian Ajunwa: The best moments was.... I think the show I had on unilag fm on my return after about 6 months absence, was really awesome and I enjoyed every bit of it.

SBW: who is your role model?

Julian Ajunwa: my role model is Solomon ajiziogu of TV continental.

SBW: Who do you think will win the NPFL this season?

Julian Ajunwa: Wow! That's a very tough question because the league gets tougher and tougher every year because this year Kano Pillars, Wolves, Rangers, Heartland, Giwa FC, would all come back stronger.

Giwa FC who missed out of qualification for the continent on goal difference have shown intent by signing Gbenga Ogunbote as their new coach because of his achievements in the league over the years. Enyimba has hired a coach (Paul Aigbogun) who led Warri Wolves to not only second position behind winners Enyimba but scored the most Number of goals despite all the financial struggles they went through. He would look to improve Enyimba’s no of goals scored as they scored 2 goals only 5 times all through last season. He is also coming to a familiar terrain having served as assistant coach to Salisu Yusuf, he would cum in with a lot of experience.

I would pick Enyimba because they have all it takes, players, coaches, backroom staffs, mentality of Champions and finally they have the best chairman or administrator in the league (Chief Felix Anyasi Agu) he has been the one responsible for the success of the club over the last decade so on that premise I think they would retain their crown and win for the 8th time.

SBW: Are you choosing Enyimba because you support them?( our sources tell us you are a hardcore Enyimba fan)

Julian Ajunwa: No I just said it would be very tough this year but looking at it they have had the best defense in the last 3yrs in the league.
In the last 3yrs they have finished 2nd, 2nd and 1st respectively.
They finished with 70pts last season while it could have been much more if you add the 10pts they dropped at home against Abia warriors, Giwa, Wolves, Rangers and all plus they were the best away side last season with 5 wins on the road at difficult grounds like Kwara  utd, Taraba , Dolphins, Rangers, and Abia warriors that effectively won them the league title, they also got valuable draws at Bayelsa , Sharks, Nassarawa utd, Wikki Tourists.

SBW: With the home based super eagles exiting the CHAN 2016 tournament at the group stage, where did you think Oliseh went wrong?

Julian Ajunwa: There no perfect squad list but I think Oliseh left out some very important like Chinedu Udoji captain of the league Champions, Nzube Anazemba of Enyimba Chinedu Efugh of Heartland, the inclusion of the afore-mentioned players would have fortified the squad as the defence turned out to be our Achilles heel in the tournament where we failed to keep a single clean sheet in three games.

  SUNDAY OLISEH.

SBW: And do you think Sunday Oliseh should be sacked? Especially as he called Nigerians insane, although he has apologized

Julian Ajunwa: No not yet, Nigerians should be patient till after the double header against Egypt then we would know if we would qualify for the nations cup 2017.

SBW: What are your predictions about Samson Siasia's dream team at the Olympics, Do you think Samson Siasia can lead Nigeria to win the Olympics?

 SAMSON SIASIA.
Julian Ajunwa: It's possible if we can  plan properly by playing friendly games, top quality friends against teams that qualified for the Olympics which would put us in good shape ahead of the Olympics

And also select the right players including the 3 over aged players that would add lots of experience to the side.
 JULIAN AJUNWA.

SBW: In your own  personal opinion sir, who are the three over-aged players siasia should pick?

Julian ajunwa: Siasia shud pick one defender, midfielder and a striker so I feel he should pick Mikel , Efe Ambrose and Ighalo.
 ODION IGHALO.

SBW: That means the captain of the super eagles Ahmed Musa should not make it your own view, don't you feel the team lacked a good winger at the u-23 AFCON  tournament last year?

Julian Ajunwa : No

I don’t think we need a winger

We have more than enough

SBW: Okay so, rate Nigerian sports overall as of 2015 over 10

Was 2015 excellent, good, average or poor for Nigerian sports?

Julian Ajunwa: 6/10, Average, but it can be better this year.

SBW: In conclusion sir, what does the future hold for the NPFL?

Julian Ajunwa: The future looks good for the NPFL only if only we do the right thing,
in terms of administration, , providing top quality security at match venues, empowering the referees. There were 32 away wins in the NPFL  last season and with all these things put in place am sure we would have more away wins this season.

SBW: what do you expect from Nigerian clubs(in terms of performances) in the continent this year?

Julian Ajunwa:  well,  I think this clubs would do well (Enyimba, Wolves, Akwa utd and Nassarawa utd)  would do well on the continent this year. It comes with a lot of pressure  because CAF might just take out a slot or two from the NPFL. All four clubs have recruited well for the new season but I am a little skeptical about wolves because they have lost the bulk of the squad from last season with the sale of Egwekwe , Etebo , Osadiaye,  Ibenegbu , Lordson Ichurll, they also lost their coach in Paul Aigbogun so if you put all these indices together it makes it difficult for them and I don’t see them making the group stage of the CAF champions League. But I think the other three clubs would go far.

Okay, thank you very much for your time sir, we wish you the very best as an OAP on Unilag FM and a sports analyst with Channels television.

GOD BLESS.

CHAN 2016 FINAL: ITS DR CONGO VS MALI......via@sportsbywest3

SUPER Substitute Yves Bissouma scored the only goal of the match,  two minutes from time to send Mali into the final at the expense of Cote d’Ivoire in their semi-final match on Thursday.

Bissouma got his goal  on the 88 minute mark,  as ‘Les Aiglons’ reached the final of the tournament. mali even had the luxury of missing a penalty in the first half, and they played better overall.

Mali will face DR Congo in Sunday’s final whilst Cote d’Ivoire squares Guinea in the battle for bronze.

RECALL THAT

DR Congo edged Guinea 5-4 on penalties to reach the final of the African Nations Championship for the second time.

The Congolese, winners of the maiden edition in 2009 in Cote d’Ivoire were on the brink of victory after TP Mazembe forward Jonathan Bolingi headed them into the lead in extra time, only for Guinea to draw level with virtually the last kick through Ibrahima Sory Sankhon.

Gikanji on two occasions struck shots that missed narrowly letting the Guineans off the hook.

The last five minutes of the first half belonged to the ‘Syli Nationale’ and Sanknon forced a good save from DR Congo goalie Ley Matampi who spilled his thunderbolt from a free-kick just before the break.

The second half was a balanced with both teams starting on a positive footing with possession switching intermittently for either side.

The best chance of the game came the way of the 2009 champions three minutes from time as Gikanji’s shot from close range ricocheted off the crossbar with Guinea goalie Abdoul Aziz Keita beaten.

Just as the first half, Guinea were the better side in the closing stages but their attempts at goal were foiled by the Congolese backline forcing the game into extra time.

Twelve minutes into extra time, Bolingi shot the Leopards into the lead by heading home from substitute Guy Lusadisu’s cross past a hapless Keita.

The Congolese held on and just on the stroke of time, Guinea replied with the equalizer through Sankhon who riffled home a thunderbolt that left Matampi with no option.

During penalties, Matampi saved the decisive kick of Youla as the Congolese reached the final for the second time. Captain Kimwaki, Michel Mika, Bolingi, Gikanji and Elia scored for the Congolese whilst Sankhon, Aboubacar Camara, Aboubacar Bangoura and Daouda Camara converted for the Guineans.
