BRITISH NUMBER ONE tennis player, ANDY MURRAY is through to the last four of the Australian open getting Spainard  David Ferrer out of his way, winning, 6-3 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 6-3.

He his set to face Raonic in ONE  of the semi final pairings. Andy Murray already has two grand slams to his name, but has lost four finals in the Australian open. Murray has now made it to 18 grand slam semi finals, With 11 aces to none and 49 winners, Murray was a convincing victor as his momentum kept growing and he will now look to take that into his next match on Friday.

His progression means Britain have representatives in the semi-finals of both the men's and women's competitions at a Grand Slam event for the first time since 1977.

Murray beat: Zverev(6-1 6-2 6-3)   Sam Groth(6-0 6-4 6-1) , Souse(6-2 3-6 6-2 6-2) b. Tomic(6-4 6-4 7-6) and David Ferrer en route the semi finals.

Andy Murray is a Olympics gold medalist. At the 2012 US Open  Murray became the first British player since 1977, and the first British man since 1936, to win a Grand Slam singles tournament, when he defeated Novak Djokovic  in the final in five sets.

WORLD NUMBER ONE NOVAK DJOKOVIC is on course to defend the Australian open title which he won in 2015, after making it past Kei Nishikori , 6-3 6-2 6-4 in straight sets and will face roger Federer in the other semi final pairing.

The world No 1 admitted he rested instead of practicing for the Nishikori match and is relishing his 45th encounter with Federer.

ROGER FEDERER

 
THE MAN WITH THE MOST GRAND SLAM MATCHES VICTORIES, MOST GRAND SLAM TITLES, ROGER FEDERER beat Berdych 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 6-4 and it took him  two hours and 16 minutes. standing in his way is Novak a man who beat roger Federer in two grand slam finals last year.

The Swiss player, now 34, has now reached 39 Grand Slam semi-finals and was a convincing winner against Berdych.

At the end of a tight first set, he dominated the tie-break to gain an advantage and broke serve five times as he eased to victory from there.
Federer said: "Tomas has caused me a lot of problems over the years and it's a pleasure playing against him.

Federer has reached 27 men's singles Grand Slam finals, including 10 in a row from the 2005 Wimbledon Championships to the 2007 US Open, both statistics being records.

 He also appeared in 18 of 19 finals from the 2005 Wimbledon through to the 2010 Australian Open. He reached the semifinals at 23 consecutive Grand Slam tournaments, from the 2004 Wimbledon Championships through the 2010 Australian Open .

 At the 2016 Australian Open  he played in a record 65th consecutive Grand Slam tournament, reached a record 47th Grand Slam quarterfinal and a record 39th Grand Slam semifinal.

MILOS RAONIC

 crowd entertainer, Gael  Monfils is  out of the Australian open 2016 losing 3-6, 6-3, 3-6, 4-6,   to Milos Raonic.

Raonic is the Most surprising semi final entrant as most people would have picked players like Wawrinka(whom Raonic defeated en route getting to the semi finals) and Nadal ahead of him.


IN 2014, Despite an ankle injury, Raonic reached the third round of the Australian Open  where he lost to Grigor Dimitrov  This injury, however, forced him off the courts for a month. He returned in March to play the BNP Paribas Open where he would beat Andy Murray  to reach the quarterfinals. However, Raonic would end up losing to Alexandr Dolgopolov in straight sets. At the Miami Masters he reached the quarterfinals for a second consecutive Masters 1000 tournament, where he lost to Rafael Nadal  This run saw him return to the top 10 in the rankings.
                                     

Statistically, his serve is one of the strongest on the tour. In 2012, he served more aces per match and won a higher percentage of service games than any other player. Novak Djokovic  has commented that Raonic "has one of the best serves in the world. Very powerful, very precise."
