AUSTRALIAN OPEN DAY 3.....FEDERER POWERS THROUGH...... via@sportsbywest3

17 time grand slam winner, ROGER FEDERER was in no mood unexpected losses for big names as we have seen so far in this Australian open2016, as he powered past dolgopolov in no time, in one hour 33 minutes winning in straight sets 6-3 7-5 6-1.

a tournament that has seen the exit of his long time rival, Rafael nadal, roger Federer was not ready to be the next big name going out as he dominated the match all through against his practice partner.

the 300th grand slam victory is on the cards for the swiz as his victory over the ukranian was his 299th, roger's head to head against his opponent now stands at 3-0.

Roger Federer has now made it to the 3rd round in all his Australian open tournaments, definitely one of his favourites with 4 of his 17 grand slam tittles coming from the Australian open, Federer broke his opponents serve five times and never  faced a break point on his own serve.

world number one, novak djokovic is also through to the next round  as he advanced in straight sets, beating  talented French teenager Quentin Halys  6-1 6-2 7-6 (7-3).

Federer will face Grigor Dimitrov  the man once dubbed 'Baby Fed'  in the third round. Dimitrov is in form, reaching the final in Sydney last week.
Federer lost to Italy's Andreas Seppi in the third round last year and says he will need to be at his best to avoid a similar fate this year.

Djokovic was at his clinically efficient best in the first two sets as he looked to be tactically three shots ahead of Halys and he opened up space on court at will while he romped to a 2-0 lead inside an hour.

IN THE WOMEN'S SINGLES TOURNAMENT

serena Williams is through to the next round after she made lightwork of her opponent by beating Taiwan's Hsieh Su-wei 6-1 6-2. with 6 Australian open to her name already, serena is the defending champion of the Australian open and is on course for her 7th crown.

She now next faces Russian Daria Kasatkina, with a potential quarter-final clash against arch-rival Sharapova awaiting.

Earlier, Sharapova had become the first player to advance to the third round at the when she beat Aliaksandra Sasnovich, of Belarus, 6-2 6-1 in just 71 minutes.

so we are on course for a final before the final if both Sharapova and Serena make it to the quarter finals, what a clash it would be, and most pundits will tell you that whoever wins that fixture will win the Australian open 2016.
