AUSTRALIAN OPEN: NADAL JOINS THE LIST OF BIG NAME EXITS...via@sportsbywest3

Australian open 2016 has seen another former world number one crash out in RAFAEL NADAL, the Spainard crashed out in the first round as he lost to Fernando Verdasco 7-6 (8/6) 4-6 3-6 7-6 7/4 6-2.

It was a all Spanish affair, but Nadal has lost two of his last three matches against Fernando, and the man with the upper edge Verdasco based on the outcomes of their recent meetings triumphed again, winning the openining set via a tie breaker.

Nadal fought back winning the next  two sets, and needing just one more set to claim a victory, but he failed to do this and Fernando fought back in a thrilling encounter, in the fourth set, both men swapped breaks before Nadal lost the set in tie break.

in the deciding set, Nadal raced to a 2-0 lead, but failed to add to this as Fernando rallied back against Nadal in an incredible way to end up winning the set 6-2 with a wide range of forehands to send Nadal out of the tournament.

Nadal last won a grand slam in 2014, which was the French open, his favourite.   Fernando fired a total of 41 forehands in a total of 90 outright winners and he said afterwards, I just hit everything. I think I played unbelieaveable in the fifth set from the break.

Nadal is not the only former world number one to have crashed out at the first round of the Australian open as Caroline Wozniacki and Venus Williams have both crashed out.

AMERICAN and seven time grand slam winner, Venus Williams has been knocked out of the Australian open 2016 in the women's singles tournament has she lost out to british number one ranked player Johanna Konta, via a 6-4 6-2 win.

in just a little less than 80 minutes, konta thrashed venus Williams and has enhanced her profile, plus the fact the she reached the fourth round of the US open last year. she got this victory via a mixture of ground strokes and great defence.

Konta's next opponent will be either Carina Witthoeft or Saisai Sheng who are both unseeded.

it must be noted that this is konta's first time at the Australian open.

THIS AUSTRALIAN OPEN IS SET TO GO DOWN AS THE MOST UNPREDICTABLE TOURNAMENT WITH UPSETS EVERYWHERE, THERE IS HOPE FOR JUST ABOUT ANYBODY, A GOOD SIGN FOR TENNIS AND SPORTS GENERALLY.
